If you already live in Rathdrum, you know August isn't one big festival weekend the way Rathdrum Days is in July. It's three consecutive Saturdays at Majestic Park, each one asking a different amount of your day, each one built for a different kind of company. Treating them as interchangeable is how you end up dragging kids to a 9 p.m. cover-band set or showing up at the movie in the park at noon.
The thesis of this post is simple. Once you see August 8, August 14, and August 21 as three separate events with three separate audiences, the weeknights in between arrange themselves around a short list of Main Street businesses and one Saturday morning at the Lions Club that almost nobody talks about.
The three Saturdays, side by side

The distinction matters because Aug 8 is the only one where the crowd, the food vendors, and the car show create the atmosphere. It's a free, all-ages festival with a wide variety of food vendors, beer gardens serving local microbrews, and the Taste of Rathdrum Car Show showcasing classic rides. If you want to graze and wander, that's your day. The Kelly Hughes Band closes the main stage from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., so the concert is baked into the festival rather than being the reason for it.
Aug 14 is the show, not the scene
The Aug 14 date is different, and worth explaining because it gets confused with Taste of Rathdrum. Prairie Fire opened the series on July 10, followed by Sammy Eubanks on July 17, Pastiche on July 24, the Kelly Hughes Band as part of the Aug. 8 Taste of Rathdrum event, and Sonic Groove on Aug. 14. So Aug 14 is a standalone concert night at the amphitheater with no festival infrastructure around it. Sonic Groove closes the series with classic rock cover material from a four-piece Spokane band, which makes the final night the clearest bet for listeners who want familiar riffs and a more straightforward bar-band energy without leaving Rathdrum, and it should appeal to adults who grew up on classic rock and want a free summer concert that feels both easy and familiar.
That framing is useful. Aug 8 is a place to bring out-of-town relatives and let them roam. Aug 14 is a place to bring a folding chair and stay in it.
What Majestic Park actually is in August
The reason all three Saturdays land at the same address is that the city built Majestic Park for exactly this. The park features a newly designed amphitheater area that is ideal for large gatherings and events, and a large paved parking lot is available just north of the park with handicapped access and parking available for users.
Two practical notes for residents who use the park in other seasons:
- Holcomb and Franco field use is limited during the weekdays due to department programs and community events, with no weekend field use during June, July and August. If you've been trying to get a pickup game going, that's why.
- The concert series didn't always live here. Rathdrum moved the free summer concerts from City Park to the outdoor amphitheater at Majestic Park in 2017, which is why longtime residents sometimes still drive to the wrong park on a Friday night.
The Aug 21 movie night is the sleeper
Movie night is the one most residents underestimate. It's the finale of the series, and the city has been unusually direct about the tone. The GRAND FINALE wraps up the FREE Family Movie Night Series with a classic, Disney's 101 Dalmatians, on August 21st at Majestic Park (5400 W Majestic Ave, Rathdrum, ID), with the movie starting at dusk (approximately 6:00 PM).
Dusk in Rathdrum on Aug 21 doesn't get dark early. Plan for a picnic first, then the picture. If you have kids who won't sit through a two-hour outdoor screening, this is the softest of the three Saturdays to try it on. There's a warm-up night worth mentioning too. On Friday, July 31, the movie is at Stub Myers Park (8320 W. 4th St., Rathdrum), starting at dusk (approx. 8:00 PM), which is a smaller, quieter park than Majestic and a good rehearsal for whether your family survives the format.
The weeknight spine, Sunday through Thursday
The three Saturdays leave four weeknights in every August week, and most residents I talk to fall into the same handful of Main Street places. Worth naming them so you can rotate rather than default:
- Westwood Brewing Co., 8162 W. Main St. The chamber's own description of the building's second life is honest: a completely remodeled old Westwood building offering craft beers, full bar, and delicious pub food with friendly staff. Hours are wide. The Rathdrum taproom runs Mon–Sun, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., at 8162 Main St.
- Cascadia Pizza Co., 14717 N. Liane Ln. Their own framing is more specific than most Rathdrum pizza options: an authentic and fast growing Neapolitan inspired wood-fired pizzeria that only uses the highest quality ingredients and unique flavor combinations, with a family and dog friendly restaurant, a covered patio or dining room, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
- Moondollars Bistro. Not new, and that's the point. Since 2007, they've been crafting the local gourmet experience to bring Rathdrum and the Northern Idaho area a place to enjoy a great burger with friends and family. The scratch-bread bistro angle is what separates it from the pub competition.
- Nadine's Mexican Kitchen, Hot Pot Ramen House, Fish On, and CJ's Family Tradition Restaurant & Lounge. All within roughly a tenth of a mile of Westwood on Main, per Inlander's location page listing Hot Pot Ramen House at 0.05 miles, Nadine's Mexican Kitchen at 0.07 miles, CJ's, and Fish On at 0.11 miles from Westwood. That density is the real reason Main Street works for a spontaneous weeknight. You can park once and let the group vote at the corner.
Between those and the seventeen listings in the chamber's food and beverage directory, the weeknight decision is less "where is there anything open" and more "which of the four blocks am I in the mood for."
The Saturday morning almost nobody schedules
Here's the piece most residents I talk to have never worked into their weekend: the Rathdrum Craft and Farmers Market runs on Saturday mornings during the season, and it isn't at Majestic Park. It's held at the Rathdrum Lions Club, 16114 N Meyer Rd, with vendors indoors and out.
The vendor mix is more specific than a generic produce list. Recent market updates have included The Hungry Squatch (formerly of the Hayden market) with burgers and cheese curds, The Main Squeezz Lemonade, plus regular vendors selling jams and smoked seasonings, beaded jewelry and diamond art, and bath salts and scrubs. The Lions Club presence is its own detail worth knowing. The Rathdrum Lions Club sells raffle tickets at the market for a half beef from Twin Lakes Farm and Ranch and the freezer to put it in, at $5 each or five for $20, with card payments accepted.
If you want to pair the market with a walk before the afternoon heat, Rathdrum Mountain / StormKing Trails is the obvious counterweight, and it's listed on the city's own parks and recreation menu alongside Roth Park, Stub Myers Park, and the Thayer Farms dog park and pickleball courts. That is a fuller Saturday morning than most residents build, and it costs nothing.
One more thing on the calendar
The Main Street Market is a separate program worth clarifying because the naming causes confusion. It's a seasonal market happening in June and October, featuring live music and entertainment, local artisans and small businesses, a food court, crafts and demos, youth activities and games, and a beer garden in a designated area. August is not a Main Street Market month, so if a neighbor tells you they're heading downtown for it, they either mean the Saturday farmers market or they're thinking of the June or October date.
Reading the August calendar like a resident
The pattern that emerges once you lay it out:
- Aug 8 is the day you clear.
- Aug 14 is the night you pack a chair for.
- Aug 21 is the night the kids get.
- The weeknights in between rotate through five or six Main Street kitchens.
- Saturday mornings belong to Meyer Road and the trails, not the park.
That's a real August, not a calendar of everything that could theoretically happen in town. If you're already here, that framing probably matches how your household actually spends the month. If you moved in this year, it's the shortcut to skipping the trial-and-error version of learning it.
